Start
UP
There is no program install process. After inserting the CD and allowing
your CD-ROM drive to "spin up to speed", the application will
start automatically if your computer is set up to do so (Windows default).
If not, just click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop,
and then click on your CD-ROM Drive. A click on the "RunCD"
icon starts the program.
Printing
Performance
The process of printing high resolution maps requires significant computer
resources. Give your computer time to decompress the graphics and send
the information to your printer. Do not attempt to run other programs
while printing maps.
Check the print properties for "print quality" and "paper
type". These settings will affect printouts substantially.
Internet
Links
With an established Internet connection, "clicking" on an underlined Internet
link will open the default Browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) to
that location. Under certain circumstances, the Browser will open behind
the PCT application and cannot be seen. It seems as if nothing happens
when clicking on a link. To view the Browser, minimize the PCT application
by using the small minimize button on the upper right hand corner of your
screen
Color
Depth
The application will run at any color setting. At 256 colors and less,
the images will look highly polarized.
Screen
Size
The CD will read the screen size at start up and adjust to that size.
If you change screen resolution while the application is running, it will
not readjust to the new size.
GPS
Shareware
(to upload waypoints to a GPS)
Included in the CD-ROM discs are are waypoint files (*.wpt) for each section
of the Pacific Crest Trail created with the Windows®
GPS software
OziExplorer. These waypoint files consist of over 1,300
waypoints along the entire PCT at trail junctions, trail heads, water,
passes, and other notable locations. The Waypoints are labeled using trail
mileage values. The printed maps have many of these mileage waypoints
indicated on the maps. Shareware software available from the Internet
is required to upload these waypoints to your GPS.

following Internet links are the home pages of GPS shareware available
